Last Flight Into Hell | ||
|
Director Ignazio Dolce under his pseudonym of Paul D. Robinson throws out an end of the line jungle Actioner that just about makes for an enjoyable enough outing. Clearly this 1990 production was hindered with tight budget & lack of those reusable sets in the Phillipines that were doubtlessly by this time laid completely to waste , most likely by Bruno Mattei !. Reb Brown stars & does his best to deliver the goods alongside another sturdy enough turn from Chuck Connors. Reb stars as Mitch Taylor , an experienced D.E.A officer , sent into the jungles to retrieve a kidnapped drug dealer. He has to escort the dealers daughter along the way & then bring both of them home safely to the waiting Chuck Connors. There's a smattering of gun play & explosions along the way & Reb gets to deliver a couple of good lines , but its all a little lame & rushed here sadly. For hardcore fans of the genre & Reb Brown followers ( Okay I know that's me ! ) . I did enjoy the moment where Reb is stopped in his tracks by a snake , as he is about to exit a downed plane , only to wip out his knife & with a swish of the wrist decapitates it. Now that's the Reb Brown we know & love. He even throws in a couple of the regulatory screams. Oh heck it was pretty good , just not his best. bb

Steve Reeves Is Hercules
|
And an Excellent Hercules he makes too. Finally got to see Mr. Universe Steeve Reeves two starring roles as Hercules in Hercules (1958) & Hercules Unchained (1959). Both movies are Directed by Pietro Francisci , but it is clear to see that the behind the camera star of both shows is Mario Bava. Credited with Lighting & Effects the genius of Mario Bava is evident for all to behold as the richness in colour & vibrancy of the incredibly well lit scenes is there to be seen in all its glory.
Steve Reeves Hercules is almost in training for the first movie as the story centres around Jason & his quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. With Hercules Unchained Steeve Reeves is the bonified star & gets to flex his muscles against all that is thrown at him , including a rampaging bull & hungry tigers , not to mention a Huge strong man who towers over him in hand to hand combat. The end battle for Thebes in Hercules Unchained is very enjoyable. The German DVD from Concorde is Extremely good ( Thanks to DZ for pointing me in the direction of Xploited , & Thanks to Tony - Trojan Of Thebes for delivering with usual aplomb ). Both discs are presented in 2:35:1 ratio in a wonderful Anamorphic 16:9 friendly composition. The quality of both films considering the age of the movies is Very agreeable. Hercules Unchained in particular is Very rich in colour , showcasing Mario Bava's great work perfectly. Overall this set comes Highly recommended. Great Fun then , and in Steve Reeves a True Big Screen Hercules is there to behold. bb |

I have to get on all those imported Peplum discs myself. Goliath And The Barbarians in scope would be uber ultra super cool!! Tony at Xploited has a good sized bunch to choose from.

Escape From Hell | ||
|
X-Rated Kult Videos DVD with twelve minutes of excised film is welcomingly restored, albeit in not a great quality & with a step down in quality further when the twelve minutes appear. Anthony Steffen is in great form here & this is coming from someone that is not actually a big fan of his. I had a vision in my head of this movie as being made at the end of his career & a role that had him playing a nasty piece of work. His performance is highly creditable & he is actually the hero of the day. Given one last chance for redemption his alcoholic turn as a disillusioned prison camp doctor tortuously drinking himself into oblivion in the jungle is very well played out.
Alan Collins is the villain of the movie as the self obsessed anti germ repugnant prison camp warden who delights in dishing out punishment to the female inmates vicariously through his warders. Prison Camp Michael Jackson Obscurio this is not as Alan Collins may wear white gloves but any crotch touching is purely left to the female inmates as they explore each others cavities like a dental hygenist nurse after a quick gargle of lady juice !. This is a great example of the WIP genre & is a very satisfyingly sleazy view that is definitely the preferred version compared to the Troma release or indeed the tacked together (1985) Linda Blair mismash Savage Island. bb xploitedcinema.com/catalo...12245.html |

Far From The Madding Claudio
|
Good old Claudio Fragasso still going strong & in Post Production for his latest Crime Actioner L' Milano-Palermo: il ritorno - a sequel to his 1995 Crimer Palermo Milano solo andata ( Darn it all I'm going to have to seek this one out - is it on DVD ? ) .
Good to see Claudio is still teaming with Rossella Drudi for the writing credits. Stars the instantly recognisable Giancarlo Giannini - seen recently in the James Bond reboot Casino Royale & its upcoming follow on (Bond 22) . bb |

Preemptive Ebay Strike Secures Zagarino
|
Okay so it's pretty much an American movie but it's heart is beating to the Euro tune ... Airboss 2: Preemptive Strike finally reared its Japanese VHS head & secured itself with a winning bid into my collection. Just Part 3 of the four to complete the set now.
Great looking Video Insert but somehow all that colourful Action may just be inferred ! ... What the heck its more Frank Zagarino giving it his all & parts one & four were more than Entertaining fair in the true 'B' movie vein. bb |

Awesome! | ||
|
That's great news BB. I've been waiting for probably close to a year for a English subbed DVD of this movie to come out. I've read nothing but good things about it. There are a lot, I mean a lot, of great Russian films being released, but no subs.
Maybe a new mega thread for Russian movies can find a home on this forum. I shall start one up soon. |

Wild East! | ||
|
Check out these three releases coming from spaghetti western specialists "Wild East"!
![]() ![]() ![]() I can't wait for that "World War 2" double feature. That is one genre of Italian cinema that the DVD companies have neglected IMO. As with all of Wild East's products, these should be widescreen from original film elements. |

Triple Dose Of Double Bill Goodness
|
What a Great trio of double header movies. Well done Wild East. Looking forward to these being released. Thanks for sharing Cojack :) .
I am particularly looking forward to The Unholy Four. Directed by Enzo Barboni aka E. B. Clucher of the Trinity movie fun & fame. The Unholy Four I believe is actually his first movie as Director as well from 1970. I do have The Forgotten Pistolero, but it is a highly watchable movie also. My version is on the Marketing Film DVD label. Goliath And The Vampires is also calling to me, Demons, monsters, Zombies & a haunted forest ... how can you go wrong !?. Once again the support movie Goliath And The Barbarians I recently bought. These are great value for money though. Now, I have neither of those war movies, so they could be a whole heap of Fun. Salt In The Wound is a Tonino Ricci Directed outing ... yey Rush & Rage bizarre greatness but with Tanks :) . Richard Harrison heads up Churchill's Leopards alongside Klaus Kinski, who also appears in Salt In The Wound. So, three more Must have DVD's :) . bb |

Sandokan The Great | ||
|
Steve Reeves and his mighty chest burst out of the screen like a 3D feature in glorious Technicolour. Umberto Lenzi Directs this 1963 adventure and turns out
an enjoyable Movie Matinee. The plot is basic and mostly stilted along with the stiff performance of a serious looking lead man in Steve Reeves, but he still
looks the part & embraces the final act with more gusto that leaves the audience with that feel good factor.
Adourned with an immaculately kept lady garden on his chin and an Ali Barber head gear Reeves leads his pirates against the tyrannical British army as he fights for justice for himself and his oppressed people. Highlights include a one on one between Sandokan and a Tiger and the end sequence in a fort which sees Steeve Reeves let loose with a machine gun that preceedes the Iconic Django by several years !. The Disc delivers an Excellent Quality print in Wide Screen and has the option of an English Language Dub, which is suitably in keeping with proceedings. The Quality of the visual is very impressive but about forty minutes in does drop down to Good for about eight to ten minutes and later on does so again for a brief couple of moments. It is likely that this is the Full version of the film and some elements were impossible to find to make this Full Cut available so lesser quality sources were applied to attain this edit. Well done to the Company in putting this disc out. Definitely one to pick up and Fans of Steve Reeves will definitely enjoy, although a little more light heartedness and more Errol Flynn interaction whould have made for a more rounded performance from the great man. The Disc is available from Tony at Xploited and very much worth considering. bb http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/sandokan-great-p-12312.html
